Spread the word
I guess I'm not one of those people that jump on the first bandwagon that comes by (and I have been kicking myself for not signing up for Google Analytics when it came out...by the way, anybody knows what's up with those invitation codes? Been waiting for mine for ages...), but I recently took it upon myself to check some of the web 2.0 apps a bit closer. And I'm loving every minute of it :)
But lets take it one step at a time. These are some of the apps that have found their way onto my Bookmark toolbar in Firefox, so I'll take a closer look at each of them.
Rojo
Lets start things of where I usualy start my day - rojo.com. I found it very frustrating subscribing to a feed from a site and not be able to keep track of the stuff I already read during the day. Before Rojo I used Sage, the Firefox RSS reader. All in all it's a pretty good reader, but lets face it, you want your RSS feeds to follow you around. There are a few online readers available, but I found Rojo to be best suited for me. After a few days of getting used to the interface, it's easy sailing onward. Now I can finally check my feeds wherever I might be.
There are still some things to work out, for instance, the interface had me kinda stuck in one place for a while, until they added an explanation to the box where you add a feed. Yeah it looks logical now, but it didn't at first. But then again it could be just me in my usual stupid mode.
Last.fm
Well, yeah David is to blame for my writing this part, so go bother him if you don't like what I'm writing :) Anyhow, I was getting tired of shoutcast selection of radiostations. It shows in the winamp playlist section, wich hasn't changed in a while now. So I was listening to my iPod nano a lot, even behind my computer. So naturaly, the battery gave out on me just when I wanted to listen to some music walking my dog. So last.fm saved another iPod battery :)
I haven't really grasped all of the tricks last.fm has to offer, but from what I've gathered in the last couple of days, this thing kicks some serious ass. A lot of work was put into this, focusing more on user experience and statistics. You can see where Rojo needs to catch up. Big time. And the desing is just plain fantastic. There seems to be a huge comunity suporting the project, well you can count one more from now on, I 'aint smiling just for no particular reason on the photo on my userpage :)
Join the social music revolution at Last.fm. It's fun, it's free, it's all about the music.
You get your own online music profile that you can fill up with the music you like. This information is used to create a personal radio station and to find users who are similar to you. Last.fm can even play you new artists and songs you might like. It's addictive, it's growing, it's free, it's music.
Flickr
OK, got to admit I got tossed into Flickr by 'force'. A client asked me to make a gallery for their website, but I didn't want to reinvent the wheel, again. So I made use of the features Flicker offers, made a flickr badge and now they have their latest images displayed on their website.
And now I'm addicted too :)
Flickr is a way to get your photos to the people who matter to you. With Flickr you can:
- Show off your favorite photos to the world
- Blog the photos you take with a cameraphone
- Securely and privately show photos to your friends and family around the world
- ... and much, much more!
Got any for me?
Well do you? I'm not really looking for something specific, just your favourite ones will do :)
