Standalone IE
As much as I dislike it, I have to test my sites in older version of IE. There are still a number of users that use decade versions of this bug plagued browser, although their number is diminishing daily. But nevertheless, to shut out any user is just plain wrong. Even if they are using IE 5.01. But how to get your hands on some of those browsers. You could install older versions of Windows and keep your fingers crossed your computer will not catch anything. Well while I was browsing for...

Reboot
Third time is the charm. And this time around I'm really satisfied with the finished site. Really really :) I was trying to make a site that would be very readble, almost newspapper-like, but at the same time keep it as simple as possible. The real reason I entered again in this event (now for the third straigth time) is that I wasn't really satisfied with the last reboot. At first it looked sweet, but as time went by, I realised that I made a few mistakes. The first one beeing, trying to...

Bandwagon
Spread the word I guess I'm not one of those people that jump on the first bandwagon that comes by (and I have been kicking myself for not signing up for Google Analytics when it came out...by the way, anybody knows what's up with those invitation codes? Been waiting for mine for ages...), but I recently took it upon myself to check some of the web 2.0 apps a bit closer. And I'm loving every minute of it :) But lets take it one step at a time. These are some of the apps that have...

Screenspired
I've just been featured on screenspire.com. I was just browsing through todays links and found a screen of my site. You can imagine my surprise. It is indeed a great honour to be listed. screenspire.com is a no-embellishment, no-comments, no-technology-favored source for recent website-designs, daily collected and handcrafted in an inspiring full( )screen view Thanks a bunch screenspire!

Feed icons
A moment ago I was browsing throgh the screenspire screens and came accross Feed Icons. By adopting this icon as the identity of syndicated content, you're helping to... Eleminate confusion brought on by acronyms.Break down the international barriers.Bring feeds to the forefront. This made me browse through some of the blogs on my rojo feed list and found Matt's entrie. He linked to a post on the Micro$oft blog that suprised me a bit. I’m excited to announce that we’re...

One Billion Internet Users
According to Jakob Nielsen, a whopping 1 billion users now utilize the world wide web. We've come a long way baby. From two computers networked together to a billion in just 36 years. Some time in 2005, we quietly passed a dramatic milestone in Internet history: the one-billionth user went online. Because we have no central register of Internet users, we don't know who that user was, or when he or she first logged on. Statistically, we're likely talking about a 24-year-old woman in Shanghai....

Too cool for IE
If you are a web developer (or pretending to be one just 'cause it's a good way to pick up chicks and a real icebreaker at parties), you might've noticed IE sometimes shows sites slightly different from other modern browsers. In the times when W3C has already aired the CSS level 3 specs and guidlines, the folks at Micro$oft (no link on purpose) still haven't found the time to properly implement the level 1 recommendations (just for the record, the final revision of CSS1 was made on January...

Here we go
So, November 1st is here, and it's time to unveil the new design. I'm quite satisfied with the new look, but as said, I've kept the old one as well. change style to minimal change style to fall As I write this there are still some kinks when you view the site in IE, but I tested it in all other modern browsers, and IE seems to be the only one having problems.Hope you like it.

Rebooting
As I wrote about this before (#1, #2, #3), I've joined the quest outlined by CSS Reboot. And since there's only 7 days to go (as of my writing this), lets take a closer look at what's in store for hribar.info. Why? CSS Reboot is a community event for web professionals. November 1st, 2005 at 12:00 GMT Rebooters from all over the world will launch their web standards-based redesigns (or designs) simultaneously, bringing traffic, interest and a little respect to their sites. There are no...

Design galleries
As a designer wannabe I frequently check known design gallery websites, that list sites that excel in visual representation in one way or another. Most of the sites I follow are focused on CSS and XHTML valid design, with some exceptions. Here is my list, in alphabetical order. Best Web Gallery CSS Beauty CSS Design CSS Drive CSS Elite CSS Import CSS Mania CSS Vault CSS Zen Garden Design Shack Styleboost Stylegala tom.ma screenblog Ultrashock Unmached Style...

Have the standards changed?
800 x 600 It was said that 800 x 600 pixles rule is written in stone. But is it? The world around web developers is changing, but we still keep the same 'standard'. The world has long ago embraced 1024 x 768, and yet we still make everything for the old 800px width. Are we rigid? Stubborn? Or do we just have to make websites for those folks with 800px widths? The rule is to let everybody in so they can see the content, but does it really need to be the guy with the smallest width that...

Who wants to be a millionaire?
OK, who doesn't, but this has to be one of the more interesting ways to do ti. This guy is selling his site, pixle for pixle. Dollar for dollar. And there's a million pixels available. Each worth a dollar ($1). At present time he has sold 12 000 pixles. Not bad :) The minimum purchase is $100 (100 pixels), and the maximum purchase is whatever is left. When you 'buy' my pixels you will not 'own' any part of the homepage or this site, but rather you are granted the right to submit an image...

I guess he just couldn't stay away
You might remember how John Oxton decided 'over night' to call it quits. I was really surprised about this, mosty because this is by far the best blog design I've seen so far ( aldo a recent attempt to copy this look came pretty close ). But after reading a few other blogs I saw what his motivations for leaving the blogging world were. But like a good soap opera, the story didn't end there. I recently took another look at his site, while I was on the hunt for some good design ideas, and saw...

A List Apart 4.0
It's back baby! New design, new issue and much more. I must admit I was a bit surprised to see A List Apart entrie appear on Stylegala today, since the last issue was published way back at the end of May. I was among those who thought it will slowly fall into oblivion. But I was wrong. Good for me right :) I love the new desing, that was made by Jason Santa Maria. But it's not just the design and logo that's new on ALA, as Jeffery Zeldman writes in the latest issue: For ALA 4 .0, Jason...

Winamp playlist
I first came across the winamp recently played list on Janne's blog. He had already written a good entrie about the things required to make it all work, but he did not get into the more technical lingo, or even to show some of the code that he used to make the whole thing work. So I decided to take it a step further for all you bloggers who want to show the world what you're listening to while you're behind your computer.

I'm on the map
I've made a few changes to the site (yes, again :)). I've added the full list of the 'Worth a look' section, full link list and the longer winamp playlist if you just have to know what I was listening to 99 songs ago :) I've moved my entrie feed to feedburner after reading this great entrie at his money blog. Right now I know I don't have a lot of readers but it's always interesting to see what people use to read feeds. I've also added a geo.position tag to my headers so you can find me on...

New book, new design...
I took klaut's advice and got my hands on the book she recomended. Web Standards Solutions: The Markup and Style Handbook writen by Danc Cederholm. I finally realised how many things I was doing wrong. So to begin with, I have redone the entire site with the mentioned book in my hand :) I have checked all of the sites for XHTML W3C compliancy and they all came back valid. I also decided to make the site a bit more accesible by using the Phark Method for image replacement. /* The Phark...
